Westside Weekender: August 24-26

I't s Friday and I'm in love with Los Angeles (especially Culver City, apparently), so here's a little Cure to kick things off.

FRIDAY: Party down in Culver City
Fiesta La Ballona began in 1951 as a yearly tradition to celebrate the early inhabitants of the region.  Today it's a weekend-long festival with musical acts, performances, food booths, and carnival rides and games.  More importantly, there's a beer and wine garden.  The event runs from 4:30pm-930pm on Friday (starts around 11:00am on Sat&Sun), and admission and parking are free.

SATURDAY: A large helping of art (Culver City again)

Another Made in LA event, Slangfest 2 at LA><ART (an independent nonprofit art space in Culver City) offers art workshops, performances and music.  Of course there will also be food trucks and drinks to nourish you throughout the day.  The event runs from 11:00am-6:00pm and admission is free.

SUNDAY: Santa Monica and all that jazz
As it's the last Sunday of August (waaaaah), it's also the last Jazz on the Lawn in SM, where Panamanian-born Rogelio Mitchell will be strumming on his guitar from 5:00pm-7:00pm.  Bring a blanket/picnic/chairs and soak up some of the last of August.  Admission, parking and bike valet are free.
