Dear Wonderful Westsiders (and visitors from the beyond),

I present to you the first of a new weekly post, "Westside Weekender."  Feel free to let me know in the comments section if I've missed something great, or give me a heads up about something that should be included for an upcoming weekend!  [The freer, the better.]

FRIDAY: Dinner & drinks in Hipsterville
Snazzy bartender [via Townhouse FB page]
Venice:  AK Supper Club [the "AK" stands for Abbot Kinney] is proud to have Benedicto Geil as their special guest chef for the next two weeks.  He'll be serving up mouth-watering dishes like Seared Lamb with Black Figs, Wild Mushrooms and Blackberry Mustard.  Once you've had your fill, meander down the street for drinks at Townhouse & The Del Monte, which was recently voted one of the best new bars in town by LA Mag.  It's got a speakeasy vibe, "historically accurate" drinks and jazz music from 8:00-10:00 pm No cover!

SATURDAY: Art tour & outdoor concert
Westwood [2:00pm-2:24pm]:  Meleko Mokgosi just won the $100,000 Mohn Award for his work now on display at the Hammer Museum (part of the Made in LA 2012 exhibit).  I saw it a few weeks ago and it's incredibly engaging and captivating.  No wonder it was picked by the visitors.  Learn about his artwork as well as that of the runners-up with an afternoon tour (free with museum admission aka $10).

Marina del Rey [7:00pm-9:00pm]:  Enjoy sunset at the waterfront Burton W. Chace Park while chilling to the beat of 70s South Bay native band, Ambrosia.   Take along a picnic dinner and blankets.  Free!

SUNDAY: Artsy bike ride & punk rock bbq

Cause for Creativity: Tour da Arts, vol. 3 from Santa Monica Museum of Art on Vimeo.

Santa Monica [12:00pm-6:00pm:  An afternoon bike ride filled with music, dance and art presented by Santa Monica Museum of Art.  Cause for Creativity: Tour da Arts is free, but make sure to register!
