Get Royally Entertained

Attention indecisive nonconformists!  Turn your visionary gaze toward the proletariat neighborhood of Sawtelle, home of Laemmle’s Royal Theatre.  At this 1-screen cinema parlor quality reigns over quantity; although selection is limited (each movie runs for a few weeks), they consistently feature sterling films that often are passed up by larger venues.  In other words, the $11.00 general admission ticket tends to be worth it.

This past month A Separation (Iran) and now, Footnote (Israel) - winner and runner-up for this year’s Best Foreign Language Film Oscar - have dominated its silver screen.  Footnote (which I highly recommend) will be replaced by the Franco-German, Goodbye First Love on April 20. Clearly, they don’t fear subtitles here.

If you still can’t justify spending eleven bucks on an art house flick, sign up for their Sneak Preview Club and get access to early screenings of new movies for free.  Laemmle also has two other theaters on the Westside: Monica 4 in Santa Monica and Music Hall 3 in Beverly Hills.
