Mar Vista: LA foodie demigod Jonathan Gold recently reviewed a couple Japanese food court restaurants, including Hannosuke in the Mitsuwa Market. The restaurant, which specializes in tempura, "is a place that does one thing, but it does it perfectly."
Westwood: Archie Carey of the Hammer Museum's wild Up ensemble will use his electric bassoon to interpret Bach's Cello Suites "with delay, phaser, distortion, and other various electronics." Starts at 6:00pm and is free. Parking is $3 under the museum.
SATURDAY: Bergamot & Getty
Santa Monica: Stop by Bergamot Station for a few opening receptions. Fobilee Frederick's "Rising" and and Aaron Peterson's "Memory" will be debuted at the Ruth Bachofner Gallery, while the Craig Krull Gallery will showcase Woody Davy's "Cantamar" and Wendy Burton's "Natural Histories." Receptions are from 4:00pm-6:00pm.
Brentwood: Make the most of this never-ending summer and enjoy another outdoor concert at the Getty. This month's Saturday off the 405 features "darkwave music project" Cold Cave, as well as DJ Mario Orduno (DREAM). There will be a beer/wine/food cash bar in the courtyard. It's 6:00pm-9:00pm, but get there early because parking can get crazy. Entry is free but parking is $15.
SUNDAY: Art Show & Book Club
Beverly Hills: The Beverly Hills Art Show, a biannual event in the fall and spring, will shine the spotlight on four blocks of fine art and crafts for two full days (Saturday AND Sunday). Open 10:00am-5:00pm and is free.
Westwood: Libros Schmibros co-directors David Kipen and Colleen Jaurretche discuss this month's book, The Pre-Raphaelites and Their Circle, and its connection with the exhibition, A Strange Magic: Gustave Moreau's Salome. Starts at 2:00pm. Entry is free and parking under the museum is $3 with validation.
