Santa Monica Pier Goes Dark in Support of Earth Hour 2012
What started in Sydney, Australia in 2007 has grown to an annual world-wide event - urging individuals, organizations and cities to take responsibility for the preservation of the planet. Tonight at 8:30 p.m., Pacific Park brings Earth Hour 2012 to the Westside in a very visibile way by turning off all (nonessential) lights of the iconic Ferris wheel. This demonstration of support is not a one-time stunt, however; the park actually has a green statement that celebrates its commitment to sustainability. It boasts the world's first solar-powered Ferris wheel as well as the first wind-powered amusement park game.
So shut off your lights tonight, hop on a bus or a bike, and head to the beach to show your support. It's not your typical Saturday night activity, but as their 2012 campaign goes: "I Will If You Will."
